Project Scope
Under a design-bid-build contract with a first-time major refinery client, Graycor Industrial Constructors completed installation of associated equipment and interconnection work at the refinery located in downstate Illinois. The project was performed to increase the refinery’s processing capacity and produce higher quality product from the existing distilling unit. The added equipment will enable the refinery to process additional light-end materials and allow for increased heavy Canadian crude feed.
Graycor’s work included complete piping, structural steel, pump installation, epoxy grouting, electrical, insulation, painting and fireproofing on the refinery’s new fractionation unit. Upon completion of construction, Graycor’s team assisted in the unit’s startup and commissioning.
Hiring local pipefitters, ironworkers, millwrights, laborers and operators, Graycor self-performed piping, structural steel, vessel assembly and installation, pump installations, hoisting and piping module interconnections. The team achieved more than 150,000 man-hours without a recordable injury. Subcontracted work included electrical, civil, insulation, painting, fireproofing and scaffolding.
The project’s safety, quality and schedule all met or exceeded the owner’s expectations.
In addition, the owner’s management gave credit to Graycor’s team for its organization and housekeeping, calling the job a “model project.”
